Today, March 20th, marks the arrival of the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a time of renewal, balance, and fresh beginnings. Here in Canada, the signs of spring are all around us. The days are getting longer, the snow is melting, and the birds are returning, filling our mornings with their songs once again.
This seasonal shift offers a wonderful opportunity to reconnect students with the natural world. As birds reappear in schoolyards and neighbourhoods, invite your students to explore and identify them using the Bird Eco-Game. This interactive experience helps build observation skills while fostering curiosity and appreciation for local biodiversity. You can find it under Animals | Eco-Games and Virtual Choice Boards on Eco-Inquiry.

💧 World Water Day, March 22
Spring also brings an important global event: World Water Day. This annual celebration highlights the importance of freshwater and raises awareness about protecting this vital resource.
When students return from March Break, it’s the perfect time to dive into water-related learning. The Water Game, available under Water | Eco-Games and Virtual Choice Boards, encourages students to think critically about water conservation, access, and sustainability in a fun and engaging way.

🌍 Looking Ahead to Earth Month
April is Earth Month, a time to reflect on our relationship with the planet and take meaningful action. For educators, this is a valuable opportunity to guide students toward realistic and attainable eco-actions that promote environmental stewardship within the school community.
The Planet Earth Game, found under Earth | Eco-Games and Virtual Choice Boards, introduces students to youth-centered environmental organizations and empowers them to explore ways they can make a difference.

As students begin to understand the scale of environmental challenges facing our planet, it’s natural for them to feel overwhelmed. These feelings often stem from a deep sense of connection to the Earth and a genuine care for its future. One way to support students’ eco-anxiety is through eco-action. Many students feel a strong urge to act and to be part of the solution.
At Eco-Inquiry, our mission is to support educators in guiding students through this journey, from awareness to action. By providing tools, resources, and opportunities for collective engagement, we help students channel their concerns into positive, impactful change.
When students work together and see the power of collective action, they begin to feel empowered. And that sense of empowerment is key to fostering hope, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to caring for our planet.
Let’s welcome spring together with curiosity, connection, and action.
